“The Here And Now is who we are.” - “The Here And Now wasn’t really Architects.”
“We’ve never been so happy with an album.” - “We didn’t really like THAN.”
“Being positive is one of the most important things in life.” - “It’s awesome to be angry again.”
“We don’t really listen to heavy music anymore.” - “We got our energy back on Daybreaker.”
Personally, I really dig Daybreaker, but those things really destroyed a lot of my excitement for it. I’ve always supported Architects, and I always will, but I still remember how proud they were of THAN, not caring what all the little hardcore kids had to say about it. It’s just hard to make my mind up about what to believe anymore, did they never really like it and claimed the exact opposite in countless interviews (which is still understandable, cause you can’t really write an album and say you don’t like it anymore a month after the release) or do they actually still love THAN the way they did before but got heavier again so that more people’d like them again? I know there must be so much pressure on them all the time, for one because it’s probably their biggest challenge to ever write a better album than Hollow Crown, for another because of the reaction they got after THAN got released. But still I would’ve expected that they’d just appreciate THAN as much as they did the whole last year instead of suddenly saying it wasn’t that great etc. THAN wasn’t my avourite album of all time but I do think it had lots of energy and heart in it. I always loved when they said “We’re doing what WE enjoy, we play the music WE love.” and just going their own way. If becoming heavier again is the way they geniunly want to take again I respect and admire that, if it’s for satisfying the “old” fans it would be a bit disapponting. However, I do love them and always will.
